Your Silver Bullet

At this leg of my journey, I found my first silver bullet.

And I’m guessing it could be yours too.

Have you thought about God’s purpose for your life?  Have you figured out what you were called to do?

Here’s the really neat part. When I finally settled down enough and began to think about my life in this way, I realized that He left us clues:

1. Your passions.

Delight yourself in the Lord, and he will give you the desires of your heart. Psalm 37:4 NIV

2. Your gifts.

In his grace, God has given us different gifts for doing certain things well. Romans 12:6 NLT

3. Your experiences.

Where have you been? What burdens have you overcome?  Sometimes, our callings emerge from our greatest challenges.

And now, isn’t it wonderful all the ways in which this distress has goaded you closer to God? You’re more alive, more concerned, more sensitive, more reverent, more human, more passionate, more responsible. Looked at from any angle, you’ve come out of this with purity of heart. 2 Corinthians 7:11 MSG

Often, what we’re called to do is very close to the things we’ve already imagined and written down.  After all, it is God that fills us with our hopes and dreams. But it’s also important to pause here and examine our motivations.  Remember, we’re programmed to be vulnerable to the same problems: greed, laziness, seeking external recognition, etc. There’s no shame in admitting our vulnerability.

The next step? Fortifying our defenses.
